Technology Infrastructure & Security for a Richmond Showroom
A commercial showroom fit-out is the ideal time to get technology infrastructure right.

The brief
How the project started
Commercial spaces need reliable technology without allowing equipment and cabling to dominate the interior. In a showroom environment, this becomes particularly important. Security cameras need clear coverage, while cabling and supporting infrastructure need to be carefully positioned around ceilings, walls, cabinetry and other building services. The installation therefore needed to balance three priorities: coverage, infrastructure and presentation. Rather than treating technology as an addition at the end of the renovation, the project incorporated it into the fit-out itself.

Our approach
How we shaped the solution
For this Richmond showroom project, Austrend worked during the renovation stage to install the cabling and security infrastructure before walls, ceilings and cabinetry were fully completed.
By coordinating the technology installation with the fit-out, cabling could be routed to the required locations while remaining concealed wherever possible, creating a cleaner foundation for the finished commercial space.

Systems we installed
Infrastructure First
One of the key advantages of installing during construction is access. With sections of walls and service areas still open, Austrend was able to route and organise cabling before the final finishes were completed. This created a structured foundation for the showroom's technology while reducing the need for visible surface cabling later. For commercial projects, planning these pathways early can make future installation, servicing and expansion significantly easier.
CCTV Coverage
Security cameras were installed across both internal and external areas of the property. Exterior cameras provide surveillance around key areas of the building, while internal cameras were positioned to monitor the showroom without becoming visually intrusive. Camera locations were selected as part of the overall fit-out rather than simply attached wherever convenient after construction.
Designed Around the Fit-out
Technology in a showroom should support the space rather than compete with it. Indoor equipment was positioned around architectural elements and cabinetry, while much of the supporting cabling was installed before the finished surfaces were closed. This approach allowed the security system and underlying infrastructure to become part of the building rather than an obvious later addition.
The result
The Richmond project demonstrates the value of involving the technology installer during the renovation stage. Instead of retrofitting cabling and security equipment after completion, the showroom received a purpose-planned infrastructure foundation with CCTV coverage integrated into the fit-out. The result is a cleaner installation today and a more practical platform for the property's technology requirements in the future.
