Box Hill North | Residential CCTV & Smart Home Infrastructure

Smart Home Starts Before You Move In

A new home should be ready to protect and connect its owners from day one. For this approximately 50-square residence in Box Hill North, Austrend Home began planning security and connectivity around six months before handover, coordinating with the builder while the property was still under construction.

The brief

Security and Connectivity Ready for Handover

The planned scope covered 10 CCTV cameras, a video doorbell, whole-home Wi-Fi coverage and a later smart-switch upgrade. The first priority was to have the CCTV system and temporary network infrastructure installed and commissioned before the owner received the keys, providing an initial security and connectivity foundation during the move-in period.

Our approach

How we shaped the solution

  1. Rather than treating cameras, Wi-Fi and lighting controls as separate last-minute purchases, the project was planned as a staged infrastructure upgrade aligned with the construction and fit-out schedule.

Included systems

Systems we installed

  1. Highlight 1 — Builder Coordination and Early Pre-Wiring

The most important work began long before the cameras appeared on the walls. Austrend Home coordinated with the builder during construction to plan cable routes and camera/network connection points. This early coordination made it possible to prepare the property for its security and network infrastructure while access to building areas was still available.

The site photos show the installation across multiple exterior elevations, including rendered walls, brickwork, the garage frontage and side access. Camera locations were distributed around different parts of the property rather than concentrated at a single entrance.

  2. Highlight 2 — A Phased Plan That Follows the Homeowner’s Timeline

With handover approaching, the team scheduled an early site visit to install and commission the CCTV system and temporary network. The smart-switch work was deliberately kept for a later phase: the owners planned further kitchen cabinetry changes and additional LED strip lighting after moving in. Finalising switches too early could have meant choosing the wrong number of buttons or lighting circuits and repeating work later.

By separating the immediate security and network needs from the later lighting-control upgrade, the project could move forward without locking the homeowner into a premature automation design.

  3. Installation Across the Property

The photographs document exterior CCTV positions on the front, side and garage areas, as well as an indoor camera near the garage opening. A marked ground-floor plan was used to coordinate device positions and electrical/network requirements. This planning-led approach is especially useful on larger homes, where the distance between camera positions and the central network location can be substantial.

The result

The documented first stage focused on CCTV and temporary network installation ahead of handover. The broader scope includes whole-home Wi-Fi, a video doorbell and smart-switch upgrades, with final smart-switch configuration scheduled after the planned cabinetry and LED lighting changes. The available photographs show installation work in progress, so this case study does not claim that every planned component has already been completed. For homeowners building a new property, the lesson is simple: plan the smart-home infrastructure early, prioritise essential systems for handover, and complete automation around the final interior design.
