Integrated Smart Venue Infrastructure
CCTV, Wi-Fi 6, KNX lighting control, specialised sports lighting and a custom venue operations platform — designed as one connected system.

The brief
How the project started
A venue of this scale requires more than individual technology installations. CCTV coverage, network performance, court lighting and day-to-day venue controls all need to operate reliably across a large open-span environment. The project therefore required a coordinated infrastructure approach that could support current operational needs while remaining flexible enough for future automation and system integration.

Our approach
How we shaped the solution
Rather than treating each technology as an isolated system, the infrastructure has been designed around the way the venue will actually operate — giving staff centralised visibility and control while creating a scalable foundation for future booking, HVAC and access-control integration.
Austrend designed the project as a connected smart venue platform. A commercial-grade network provides the communications backbone; CCTV delivers venue-wide monitoring; KNX provides distributed lighting control; specialised sports lighting supports court use; and a custom operations dashboard connects physical building controls with the venue's day-to-day workflow.
Included systems
Systems we installed
Large-Scale CCTV & Venue Monitoring
The facility is being equipped with more than 70 CCTV cameras across front-of-house, public areas and the main sports venue. Dedicated surveillance coverage is provided around reception and pro shop areas, while approximately 60 cameras cover the main sporting areas, providing visibility across individual courts and key operational zones. Selected cameras support two-way audio where required. Multiple NVR systems provide a combined storage capacity of more than 50 TB, designed to provide approximately three weeks of recorded footage under the planned operating conditions.
Venue-Wide Wi-Fi 6 Infrastructure
A commercial-grade network has been designed to provide reliable connectivity across the entire facility. High-performance Wi-Fi 6 access points are positioned across overhead and perimeter locations to provide coverage throughout the large open-span sports environment. The network forms the communications backbone not only for staff and operational connectivity, but also for CCTV, dashboards, smart controls and future integrated systems.
Commercial Sports Lighting
Austrend has worked together with its electrical team to deliver a dedicated commercial lighting solution suitable for an indoor sporting environment. Unlike standard warehouse lighting, the venue uses purpose-designed directional sports lighting with glare control, helping provide consistent court illumination while reducing visual discomfort for players. The lighting installation is integrated with the venue's smart control infrastructure rather than operating as a conventional standalone lighting system.
KNX Lighting Control Backbone
KNX forms the backbone of the venue's lighting control system, providing a robust commercial-grade platform for distributed control. A central touchscreen at reception allows staff to manage lighting across the venue, while smaller local control panels provide independent operation within individual areas. This allows staff to manage the facility efficiently without requiring every lighting operation to be performed from one central location.
From Building Controls to Venue Operations
A key differentiator of the project is the custom venue operations dashboard developed specifically for the facility. The dashboard allows staff to view court status and operate court lighting through timer-based controls, making it easier to align lighting usage with actual court sessions. Instead of staff manually switching courts on and off throughout the day, individual courts can be assigned operating periods with visible countdown timers and controlled shutdown. This creates a practical bridge between the physical KNX lighting infrastructure and the venue's day-to-day business operations.
Integrated CCTV Monitoring & Remote Support
CCTV monitoring is also being integrated into the operational interface, allowing authorised staff to quickly view and switch between relevant camera feeds from the venue control environment. This reduces the need to operate multiple independent systems and gives staff a more unified view of venue activity. A dedicated on-site server provides the foundation for remote monitoring, system maintenance and ongoing support. Austrend can remotely assist with system configuration, diagnostics and future upgrades without requiring a site visit for every operational change.
Built for Future Integration
The platform has deliberately been designed as an expandable foundation. Future integrations may include:
- Venue booking and reservation platforms
- HVAC and air-conditioning control
- Access control
- Additional energy-management functions
- Expanded operational reporting and automation
Over time, this creates the potential for booking information, court timers, lighting, climate control and access permissions to operate as part of one connected venue workflow.
The result
The project demonstrates how smart infrastructure can move beyond individual building systems and become part of the venue's operating model. By combining CCTV, networking, KNX control, specialised sports lighting, custom software and remote management, Austrend is building a scalable digital foundation designed to reduce manual operation, improve visibility and support future automation as the venue grows.
